AC or DC coupling

If you’re adding a battery to existing solar, an AC coupled system is usually the simpler and cheaper path (90–94% round trip efficiency). If you’re installing solar and battery together, DC coupling can be 3–5% more efficient because it avoids an extra conversion step. We’ll talk through what makes sense for your situation.

FAQS - Battery Backup Sydney

No. You can install a battery without solar. It’ll charge from the grid during off peak times and discharge when rates are high. But most people pair a battery with solar to maximise savings and energy independence.
The federal government runs the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which provides an upfront discount on eligible battery systems. From May 2026, the rebate uses a tiered structure; the first 14kWh of capacity gets the full rate. Tesla is also offering their own rebate of up to $1,500 for Powerwall installations for orders placed before 30 June 2026. We handle all the paperwork and make sure you get every dollar you’re entitled to.

DC coupled systems connect directly to your solar panels and are 3–5% more efficient because there’s one less conversion step. They’re ideal for new solar plus battery installs. AC coupled batteries are easier to retrofit onto existing solar systems and are generally simpler and cheaper for that scenario. We’ll recommend what suits your setup.
