Is Your Home Missing Its Most Important Safety Device?

An RCD safety switch is the one thing standing between your family and a serious electric shock. It detects faults and cuts the power in milliseconds , faster than a heartbeat. But not all homes have them and many that do are running outdated units that no longer meet Australian Standards. CGF Electrical installs, upgrade and test RCD safety switches across Sutherland Shire, Sydney. If your board needs a single new unit or complete circuit protection, our licensed electricians make sure your home is safe, compliant and properly covered.

What Is an RCD Safety Switch?

An RCD (Residual Current Device) constantly monitors the flow of electricity through a circuit. If it detects current leaking to earth, such as through a person or faulty wiring, it shuts off power in under 0.03 seconds. That’s fast enough to save a life. A standard circuit breaker protects appliances and wiring from overloads. An RCD protects people from electric shock. You need both. Under AS/NZS 3000, RCD protection is now mandatory on all residential final sub circuits, including power points, lighting and wet areas. From 1 May 2023, Type AC RCDs can no longer be installed in Australia. Only Type A or Type B units meet current requirements.
